The Center for Urban Innovation supports research that thinks globally, acts locally, and encourages interdisciplinary, scholarly research on urban issues and the expanding role of innovative institutions in the design and governance of resilient regional economies.

Serving as an incubator for faculty research initiatives as they grow and partners within Georgia Tech as well as with other universities, non-profits, civic organizations, public agencies, and industry partners focused on strategies for building sustainable communities, the CUI is a portal connecting Georgia Tech’s expertise to the broader stakeholder community locally, nationally, and internationally.

Yanni Alexander Loukissas is a designer and ethnographer with a focus on the role of computation in cooperative practices of exploration and imagination. Before coming to Georgia Tech, he was a lecturer at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. His research and teaching concentrate on the cultural dimensions of data, mapping, modeling, visualization, simulation and prototyping.
