{"411551":{"#nid":"411551","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Training Program Supports Minors on Campus","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EAs the host for enrichment opportunities ranging from educational to athletics, Georgia Tech\u2019s community outreach brings thousands of future Yellow Jackets under the age of 18 to campus each year. Accordingly, Tech is supplementing its policy statements with a comprehensive training program to help the campus community understand how to best support and protect the wellbeing of these guests.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cThe Institute has several policies in place to help prevent and report child abuse,\u201d says Mia Reini, director of Enterprise Risk Management. \u201cIn fact, mandatory training and criminal background checks are required for those working one-on-one with minors. Looking forward, the Institute will offer a more consistent and accessible training program to help educate all Georgia Tech employees and volunteers on how to best protect children from abuse \u2013 namely sexual abuse.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe program selected by the Institute offers practical prevention techniques with a conversational, real-world approach to preventing sexual abuse. The training focuses on key critical factors in protecting children:\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003ELearning the facts\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EMinimizing opportunity\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003ETalking about sexual abuse\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003ERecognizing the signs\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EReacting responsibly\u003C\/li\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe three-hour course complements the Institute\u2019s \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/policylibrary.gatech.edu\/campus-use-facilities\/mandatory-reporting-child-abuse-policy\u0022\u003EChild Abuse Prevention Policy\u003C\/a\u003E that helps guide those involved with pre-college programs in protecting children. In addition, the training will reinforce the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/policylibrary.gatech.edu\/campus-use-facilities\/mandatory-reporting-child-abuse-policy\u0022\u003EMandatory Reporting of Child Abuse Policy\u003C\/a\u003E designed to ensure that any instance of suspected child abuse is properly reported.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ETraining will be offered on June 19 and July 15 with additional training to follow throughout the year.
