{"418431":{"#nid":"418431","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Prof. Panagiotis Tsiotras Appointed Dean\u0027s Professor","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EIn recognition of his enormous accomplishments and contributions to the AE School and the aerospace profession, Prof. Panagiotis Tsiotras was appointed by Dean Gary May as a College of Engineering Dean\u0027s Professor.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EDr. Panagiotis Tsiotras is a Professor at the Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering at Georgia Tech and the Director of the Dynamics and Control Systems Laboratory in the same School.\u0026nbsp; He is also affiliated with the Center for Robotics and Intelligent Machines and the Center for Space Systems at Georgia Tech.\u0026nbsp; Professor Tsiotras\u0027 area of expertise is on dynanics and controls, with emphasis on optimal and nonlinear control for mechanical and aerospace systems.\u0026nbsp; He has authored or co-authored more than 250 technical papers in these areas.\u0026nbsp; Recently, his work has shifted to algorithmic control design and optimal decision-making for autonomous systems.\u0026nbsp; He is currently the lead PI of a three-University MURI project dealing with linking perception and control for agile autonomous vehicles operating in uncertain environments.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EProfessor Tsiotras holds degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering and Mathematics.\u0026nbsp; Prior to joining Georgia Tech in 1998, he was a faculty member at the University of Virginia (1994-1998).\u0026nbsp; He has also held visiting research positions at INRIA-Rocquencourt, in France and the Center of Automation and Systems at \u00c8cole des Mines de Paris, also in France.\u0026nbsp; He has served at the Editorial Boards of the\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EAIAA Journal of Guidance Control and Dynamics, the IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control.\u003C\/em\u003E\u0026nbsp; He is a recipient of the NSF CAREER Award, and the Sigma Xi award for Excellence in Research.\u0026nbsp; He is a Fellow of AIAA, and a Senior Member of the IEEE.\u003C\/p\u003E","summary":null,"format":"limited_html"}],"field_subtitle":"","field_summary":"","field_summary_sentence":[{"value":"Prof. Panagiotis Tsiotras was appointed by Dean Gary May as a College of Engineering Dean\u0027s Professor."}],"uid":"27456","created_gmt":"2015-06-24 16:42:27","changed_gmt":"2016-10-08 03:18:49","author":"Britanny Grace","boilerplate_text":"","field_publication":"","field_article_url":"","dateline":{"date":"2012-10-26T00:00:00-04:00","iso_date":"2012-10-26T00:00:00-04:00","tz":"America\/New_York"},"extras":[],"groups":[{"id":"1239","name":"School of Aerospace Engineering"}],"categories":[{"id":"134","name":"Student and Faculty"}],"keywords":[],"core_research_areas":[],"news_room_topics":[],"event_categories":[],"invited_audience":[],"affiliations":[],"classification":[],"areas_of_expertise":[],"news_and_recent_appearances":[],"phone":[],"contact":[],"email":["communications@ae.gatech.edu"],"slides":[],"orientation":[],"userdata":""}}}
