Emerging Materials for Low Power Flexible Displays
Dr. Khaled Ahmed
Technology Strategy and Development, Intel Corporation

Thursday August 6, 2015 at 1:00PM
Manufacturing Related Disciplines Complex
Hightower Conference Room – Room 3515

ABSTRACT: With the rapid growth of technology in the last few decades, the thrust in research of materials has seen a sharp rise. This has led to the discovery of numerous new materials with unique applications/functions which may be broadly classified under the umbrella of “emerging materials”. Examples include In-Ga-Zn-O, Graphene, and Carbon Nanotubes. As mobile devices become more ubiquitous, both industry and academia are exploring new materials, manufacturing equipment and methods for making new and improved display components for such mobile devices. Flexible Display components include touch panel, flexible substrate, and light emitting diodes. This talk will focus on the challenges facing researchers to develop new materials to accelerate the high volume manufacturing of low power flexible displays for mobile applications.

BIO: Dr. Khaled Ahmed currently works in Technology Strategy & Development at Intel Corporation. Prior to joining Intel in March 2015, he worked for Intermolecular, Applied Materials, Conexant Systems and Advanced Micro Devices in a variety of technology strategy, business development and engineering positions. He has a wide range of experience in designing materials, interfaces and devices for high-performance/low-power computing, high-performance/low-power displays, low-power sensors, and clean energy. Dr. Ahmed received a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University. Dr. Ahmed is a senior member of IEEE.
