The Cooperative Institutional Research Program (CIRP) allows us to learn about our freshmen. Last summer here\u2019s what our first-year student told us about themselves:\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003E96% had an A average grade in high school\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E76% graduated from a public high school\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003ENearly half (48%) said that Georgia Tech was their 1\u003Csup\u003Est\u003C\/sup\u003E choice\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E47% intend to earn a Master\u2019s; 27% a Ph.D.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EThe vast majority (85%) frequently\/occasionally felt overwhelmed by all they had to do\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E43% frequently\/occasionally felt depressed\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003ENearly half (48%) frequently\/occasionally fell asleep in class\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E47% of their Fathers; 36% of their Mothers earned Graduate degrees\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EIn deciding to go to college, almost all (99%) said it was very important\/somewhat important to get a better job\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EWhen compared to peers their own age\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003E95% rated themselves at being in the highest 10%\/above average with respect to \u003Cem\u003Eacademic ability\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E74% rated themselves at being in the highest 10%\/above average with respect to \u003Cem\u003Eself-confidence (intellectual); 39% \u003C\/em\u003Ein \u003Cem\u003Eself-confidence (social)\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003ELess than half (42%) rated themselves at being in the highest 10%\/above average with respect to their \u003Cem\u003Epublic speaking ability\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/li\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E\u003Cli\u003ELess than half (49%) said their ability to manage their time was a major strength\/somewhat strong\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EVery important\/somewhat important reasons to them in deciding to come to Georgia Tech\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003E63% parents\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E100% GT\u2019s very good academic reputation\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E72% the cost of attending GT\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E34% wanted to live near home\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E83% GT\u2019s graduates gain admission to top graduate\/professional schools\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E98% GT\u2019s graduates get good jobs\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E86% GT\u2019s rankings in national magazines\u003C\/li\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E","summary":null,"format":"limited_html"}],"field_subtitle":"","field_summary":"","field_summary_sentence":[{"value":"At FASET each summer, our incoming students complete an Institute survey.
