{"434091":{"#nid":"434091","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Incoming Students Required to Complete Online Training","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThe Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia (USG) is committed to providing a healthy environment on all campuses throughout the system.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThis past year, the USG Task Force on Campus Safety and Security, co-chaired by Georgia Tech President G.P. \u201cBud\u201d Peterson, proposed a plan to ensure all incoming students are properly informed with respect to sexual assault and misconduct.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EBeginning this fall semester, the Georgia Institute of Technology, along with all other USG institutions, is requiring all incoming students to participate in two online educational courses \u2014 \u003Cem\u003EAlcoholEdu\u003C\/em\u003E and \u003Cem\u003EHaven: Understanding Sexual Assault \u2014 \u003C\/em\u003Eas part of a comprehensive health program designed to promote the safety, health, and wellbeing of our community.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cEducating our students on the critical issues of sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking, as well as how to make well-informed decisions about alcohol, is vital to our students\u2019 wellbeing and their success. We appreciate everyone taking an active role in educating our students and reminding them to complete this very important training,\u201d says Burns Newsome, director of Compliance Programs.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThis new mandatory training program requires all incoming undergraduate students \u2013first-year and transfer students \u2013\u0026nbsp;to complete all of the online training requirements for two educational courses, \u003Cem\u003EAlcoholEdu\u003C\/em\u003E and \u003Cem\u003EHaven: Understanding Sexual Assault\u003C\/em\u003E, by October 15, 2015. Failure to complete the online training requirements for these two educational courses by October 15 will result in a registration hold for the spring 2016 semester. This hold will remain in place until all the training requirements for both educational courses are satisfied.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EAs of this date, all incoming undergraduate students should have completed Part I of the online training courses for \u003Cem\u003EAlcoholEdu\u003C\/em\u003E and \u003Cem\u003EHaven: Understanding Sexual Assault. \u003C\/em\u003EStudents will receive an email invitation to begin Part II of online training approximately six weeks after completing Part I.
