Petit Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience has added three new faculty members. Joining the growing roster of world-class, multidisciplinary researchers are Michael Borich, Muralidhar Padala and Simon Sponberg.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EBorich joined Emory University\u2019s School of Medicine in 2014 as an assistant professor of rehabilitation medicine in the Division of Physical Therapy. He\u2019s interested in understanding and harnessing the plastic capacity of the human nervous system in health and disease in order to improve rehabilitation outcomes for people with neurologic injury and disease.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EAn engineer by training, Padalla has been assistant professor in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Emory since 2010. He became an assistant professor in the Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering (a joint department of Emory and the Georgia Institute of Technology) in 2014. His research focuses on the biomechanics and mechanobiology of heart valve disease and heart failure.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ESponberg, an assistant professor in the both the School of Physics and School of Applied Physiology, came to Georgia Tech in 2014. Part of an emerging interdisciplinary field called \u2018neuromechanics,\u2019 Sponberg is interested in how physics and physiology enable ambulatory animals to achieve stability and maneuverability.
