{"450281":{"#nid":"450281","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Georgia Tech Receives Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award for Second Consecutive Year","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EInstitute Diversity is proud to announce that Georgia Tech received the 2015 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from \u003Cem\u003EINSIGHT Into Diversity. \u003C\/em\u003EFor the second consecutive year, Georgia Tech is being recognized for its comprehensive approach to diversity and its efforts to make the campus accessible to all groups of underrepresented students, faculty, staff, and administration.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cWe are honored by this recognition from \u003Cem\u003EINSIGHT Into Diversity \u003C\/em\u003Eas diversity is one of the major priorities identified in our 25-year strategic plan,\u201d said Archie Ervin, vice president of Institute Diversity and president of the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education. \u201cIt has been a landmark year for the Institute from the record-setting freshman class in its diversity to the launches of the Staff Diversity, Inclusion, and Engagement and the Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion units, but there is still more work to do.\u201d\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe HEED Award is the only national award honoring U.S. colleges and universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion throughout their campuses. In a process similar to the holistic review used by college admissions counselors, each individual institution is rated by its commitment to broadening diversity and inclusion on campus through initiatives, programs, and outreach; student recruitment, retention, and completion; and hiring practices for faculty and staff.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cCongratulations to Georgia Tech for receiving the HEED Award for the second year,\u201d said Lenore Pearlstein, publisher of \u003Cem\u003EINSIGHT Into Diversity\u003C\/em\u003E. \u201cGeorgia Tech is one of 92 schools that met our benchmarking standards by demonstrating an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EAs an award recipient, Georgia Tech will be spotlighted in the November 2015 issue of \u003Cem\u003EINSIGHT Into Diversity\u003C\/em\u003E.
