The 60-ton crane is needed to lift the old generator off the pad and replace it with the new one. The crane will need to set up on 9^th Street which will have road closed signs, danger tape and flagmen in the locations indicated on the map (see image).

Part of the Boggs parking lot will be used for contractor staging. This will also block the sidewalk to the north of Boggs and impact Boggs building occupants and campus pedestrian flow.

This month, work will begin on the Campus Safety Building, the new home for the Georgia Tech Police Department that will take shape at the corner of Hemphill Avenue and 10th Street. 

Work is also set to begin on The Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design. In the coming weeks, site work will begin for the project that is set to rise from a surface parking lot at the corner of State Street and Ferst Drive.

Within the next six months, work will also begin at the Dalney deck and office building on Dalney Street, near the intersection with Greenfield Street.

The campus community can expect some near-term construction impacts. Both the Campus Safety Building and Kendeda projects will be active within the next two weeks. Fencing will be erected at the Kendeda site, beginning Feb. 6. Site fencing will include sections of surface lots within the project boundary.  

On Dalney Street, through traffic to Ferst Drive will be closed where it passes through the Kendeda project site. Major work on the Dalney project is not expected to begin until May.

Facilities Management will share more detailed site plans and logistics in the coming weeks.

1st Floor Access Instructions: 
Take the elevator in Klaus Building to 3rd floor. Exit elevator and proceed across the binary bridge, upon exiting the bridge the Pettit building will be on the left. Proceed to enter the side or front entrance of the Pettit building 1st floor.

2nd Floor Access:
In the Van Leer Building, take the elevator to the 3rd floor. Exit the elevator and proceed through the covered walk connecting the Van Leer building to the Pettit building 2nd floor.

But don’t plan on large tailgate gatherings just yet. To protect the root system of the new grass and help prevent permanent damage to the area, heavy traffic or placement of tents and large event equipment is prohibited until further notice. It is particularly important to avoid use of the Green during and after rain events while the ground is saturated. 

Tech Green will not be available for events until warmer weather conditions bring the grass back out of dormancy. Facilities Management Landscape Services will continue to monitor the development, strength, and stability of Tech Green and will communicate when formal scheduled events may resume. This will likely be sometime in late spring or early summer 2017. 

Temporary lane closures will be in effect Saturday, Feb. 4, to Sunday, Feb. 5. Sidewalks will remain accessible, but pedestrians may be re-routed to cross the street in certain areas.

Those who will be on campus this weekend should allow for delays if passing through the center of campus or plan to find an alternate route to avoid construction. Drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians should take extra care as they traverse this area during the weekend.

When complete, Ferst Drive will have wider and safer sidewalks, LED streetlights, a new bus shelter, and enhanced crosswalks.

Temporary lane closures are also to be expected. Sidewalks will remain accessible in this area, however pedestrians may be re-routed to cross the street in certain areas.

Some of the updates include installing wider and safer sidewalks, LED streetlights, and a new bus shelter. Some trees will be removed from the pedestrian islands in the intersection of Hemphill Avenue and Ferst Street. In addition, the crosswalk will be enhanced.

Ferst Drive and Hemphill Avenue remain open during this time; however, traffic lanes will shift temporarily. Drivers will need to take special care in sharing the road with cyclists during this time. Some sidewalks and crosswalks between State Street and Hemphill Avenue will also temporarily closed, but pedestrian traffic will be rerouted appropriately.

November 2016-2017: Work will close the north sidewalk of Bobby Dodd Way between Old Civil Engineering Building, Cherry Street and the alley between Old Civil Engineering building and Crosland Tower.

July 2017-November 2018: Work will close described above and also pedestrian way between Bobby Dodd Way/Cherry Street to Fourth Street between Price Gilbert and Crosland Tower. Access to Hinman and Rich will be maintained from Fourth Street but not o he north side of the Price Gilbert Library.

The Van Leer Rotunda and two story connecting the wing to the main building will be closed for the duration of the project.
