The proclamation was presented to the members of Westside READY after a Lunch-and-Learn held in the Old City Council Chambers of City Hall Tuesday, August 18\u003Csup\u003Eth\u003C\/sup\u003E, 2015 in the presence of all attendees which included Atlanta Public School Board Members, Atlanta City Councilmembers, foundations, youth service-providers, and various community residents.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EWestside READY (Revitalizing Education And Developing Youth) developed organically out of efforts to save Kennedy Middle School and is made up of Raising Expectations, Westside Communities Alliance (which is led by the Office of Government and Community Relations, the College of Architecture, and the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts at Georgia Institute of Technology), Atlanta Public Schools Board District 2 Representative Byron Amos, Washington Cluster Advocacy Group, Bonner Office of Community Service and Student Development at Spelman College, and Alonzo A. Crim Center for Urban Educational Excellence at Georgia State University. All organizations connected to Westside READY have extensive independent work histories supporting Westside children and families.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ESince its inception at Georgia Tech, College of Architecture has been an active member of the Executive Leadership Team of the Westside Communities Alliance with unwavering support from Dean Steve French. Over the years, several SCaRP professors have lent their support in discussion series on topics such as university-community partnerships, transit-oriented development, vacancy issues, and access to online data. This year, SCaRP student Adeline Collot is serving as the Graduate Research Assistant and SCaRP alumni Mackenzie Madden is the Associate Director of the WCA.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe proclamation commends Westside READY for their \u201centhusiasm and commitment to expanding educational opportunities and enhancing the academic experience for our Westside youth.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe collaborative strives to develop and implement collective strategies for impacting the historic Washington Cluster schools and Westside youth as the neighborhoods transition. Westside READY seeks to reclaim the rich history, to support families being able to remain in the community, and to reinvigorate the cluster through a strategic focus on education, with an emphasis on the cradle to career pipeline.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIn January, Westside READY hosted the Westside Education Forum, which will have a follow-up conversation this coming January.
