Can we avoid wars, alleviate homelessness and improve global health using computers? What are the technical challenges that arise, and what humanistic issues have to be taken into account and understood in the process? In this second, expanded edition of the Computing 4 Good (C4G) class, we continued to explore problems faced by developing countries and underserved populations from a computing perspective.

Teams from the Fall 2009 class will present posters and demos of their research projects, which are being developed in cooperation with external partners. Application areas range from safeguarding national blood supplies to supporting after-school educational programs, to supporting Internet connectivity in remote regions, to enhancing awareness of and changing recycling behaviors, and more. A distinguished panel of leaders in community work and philanthropy will discuss the projects and the larger concepts of C4G.
