This year’s workshop will focus on “Synergizing Science, Engineering, and Clinical Translation” and abstracts are due by December 1, 2018. Georgia Tech and Emory's Regenerative Engineering and Medicine Center will partner with both the University of Wisconsin Madison, the University of Pittsburgh, Mayo Clinic and the Medical University of South Carolina as organizing institutions.

The workshop has many exciting sponsorship and exhibit opportunities.

This annual workshop sells out each year at approximately 200 participants. The intimate environment allows for ample discussion time with attending faculty, trainees, industry participants and exhibitors. The program, which spans four days, has presentations in a wide range of topics.

Retreat Goal
To bring researchers together who are interested in regenerative medicine to learn more about the diverse research being conducted in Georgia and build community and collaborations.

Regenerative Engineering and Medicine (REM) Research Center

REM is specifically focused on endogenous repair or how the body can harness its own potential to heal or regenerate. Bone, muscle, nerves, heart, blood vessels, and other tissues each have a baseline ability to regenerate. REM investigators ask what can be done when trauma or disease in humans overwhelms the ability of tissues or organs to regenerate on their own.

VISION

The integration of engineering technologies, biological discoveries, and clinical expertise and infrastructure will establish Georgia as a national leader in regenerative clinical therapies.

MISSION

To fundamentally transform treatment outcomes for himan diseases and injuries through the development and translation of new technologies that enhance the body's ability to heal itself. Targeted unmet clinical needs include musculoskeletal degeneration and injuries, cardiovascular disease, inflammatory and immune disorders, pediatric disorders, metabolic organ failure, neurological dideases, and soft tissue and bone injuries.

University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine

Since the 1990’s, we have conducted clinical trials of gene modified T cells. Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells targeting CD19 on B cells leukemias and lymphomas have induced durable complete responses in patients who are relapsed or refractory to all other available treatments. 

This synthetic biology technology has now undergone global multi-center clinical trials and recently received FDA approval (Kymriah^TM, Novartis) in relapsed/refractory acute lymphoid leukemia in children and young adults. CAR T cells targeting new targets in hematologic malignancies and in solid tumors are underway and provide demonstration that it is possible to design immunity at will for therapeutic application.  

AFTER THE STEEP 2017 WORKSHOP YOU WILL TAKE AWAY:

1. A detailed framework of large-scale statewide initiatives funded by the department of defense and department of commerce. Information provided will help tailor your individual opportunity and identify your role for participation as an early adopter.
2. Identify and engage key players with complimentary research interest to create new partnerships.
3. Will certainly give you new strategies, techniques, methods, and approaches to implement a winning proposal for this year’s competitive REM grant call.

The Regenerative Engineering Medicine group, known as REM, is a joint partnership between UGA, Emory and GT. The aim of STEEP 2017 is to further lively discussion and rapid exchange of information amongst academic researchers, post-docs, and community partners. Together we stand committed to something greater.
