Numerous G-quadruplex structural characteristics\u0026nbsp;indicate that even for relatively simple G-rich DNA or RNA sequences possible\u0026nbsp;structural motifs\u0026nbsp;are still not known entirely. It is impossible to\u0026nbsp;unequivocally predict folding topology from oligonucleotide sequence and assess\u0026nbsp;its thermodynamic stability at the current state of knowledge. Both\u0026nbsp;are however\u0026nbsp;crucial for understanding biological functions of G-quadruplexes as well as for\u0026nbsp;the use of these noncanonical structures as targets in development of new\u0026nbsp;anticancer and antiviral drugs\u0026nbsp;and in nanotechnological applications.
