Tremendous advances have been made over the last decade in developmental biology, cell biology and immunology that have demonstrated the potential for cells to be successfully reproduced in the laboratory environment. However, the key to the successful development for clinical use lies in the large-scale reproducibility and production of high quality cells in a controlled manufacturing environment. Also key is the existence of a trained workforce of engineers and scientists with the unique skills and knowledge to guide the industry and interface with clinical teams.

The planned three and one-half day training course will be held on March 12-16, 2016 and will precede the 20th annual Regenerative Medicine Workshop at Hilton Head, which will be held March 16-20, 2016. The purpose of the course will be to train pre-doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows in the translation of cell-based technologies for the large-scale production into clinical therapies.

This course is a an international collaboration between the Georgia Institute of Technology, the Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon, Portugal, and the University of Loughborough in the United Kingdom. This course will be similar in nature to 1st International Advanced Course on Regenerative Medicine Manufacturing that was held in Tavira Algarve, Portugal in 2013 and will focus on recent advances and existing challenges facing the research and development of regenerative medicine therapies.

Course Chair - Robert M.
