{"50826":{"#nid":"50826","#data":{"type":"news","title":"OSP Offers Crash-Course in Research Administration Certificate","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThe Office of Sponsored Programs offers its five core courses in research administration leading to the Departmental Certification in Sponsored Programs during its core course week.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EDepartmental administrators who have responsibilities relating to\nsponsored research projects are invited to attend Feb. 9 through Feb.\n11.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe\nDepartmental Certification in Sponsored Programs consists of five core\ncourses and two electives. Courses can be taken in any order. Required\ncore courses include Proposal Preparation and Submission, Public\nResponsibility and Research Commitments, Budget Justification and\nTemplates, Post Award Issues, and Grants and Contracts Accounting.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nEvery spring semester, OSP offers the five core courses in a\ntwo-and-a-half-day session, providing an opportunity to take them all\nat once. During the fall semester, courses are spaced out on the\ntraining calendar. \u003C\/p\u003E\n                        \u003Cp\u003E\u201cIt\u2019s also a good networking\nopportunity and offers a lot of information, especially for those who\njust came into a university setting,\u201d said OSP Training Manager Garrett\nSteed. \u201cWe\u2019re under a different set of regulations from most other\nbusinesses.\u201d After completing the required courses and at least two\nelectives, participants take an \u201copen book\u201d test. \u003C\/p\u003E\n                        \u003Cp\u003E\u201cAttendees\nlearn how to correctly find, format and complete a proposal, budget and\nother necessary forms,\u201d Steed said. \u201cA departmental administrator can\nacquire a serious overview of OSP, down to the nuts and bolts. It gives\nthem more confidence in what they are doing, and departments are\nimproving internal processes as their administrators complete the\ncertificate program.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\n                        \u003Cp\u003EOSP\nassists principal investigators in applying for and administering\nresearch grants and contracts. All grants, contracts and cooperative\nagreements come through the office.
