{"508871":{"#nid":"508871","#data":{"type":"news","title":"USG Chancellor Weighs in on Campus Carry Legislation","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EUniversity System of Georgia Chancellor Hank Huckaby provided testimony Wednesday during a Georgia Senate Judiciary Committee meeting about \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.legis.ga.gov\/legislation\/en-US\/Display\/20152016\/HB\/859\u0022\u003EHouse Bill 859\u003C\/a\u003E, which would allow concealed firearms on public college campuses in Georgia.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIn the statement, Huckaby said that the Board of Regents, the presidents of its 29 institutions, its campus police chiefs, and many others support the current firearm law for campuses.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cWe feel strongly that current law strikes the right balance between creating a safe environment on our campuses while affording those individuals who are carry users a safeguard location,\u201d Huckaby said.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EOther USG presidents have weighed in supporting Huckaby\u2019s testimony, including Georgia Tech President G.P. \u201cBud\u201d Peterson.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cWe appreciate Chancellor Huckaby\u2019s leadership in testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee on behalf of the 29 institutions in the University System of Georgia,\u201d said Peterson.\u0026nbsp;\u201cHe represented us well.
