Arkin will serve on the board for the IEEE Society on Social Implications of Technology (SSIT), and Conte was elected to the board of the IEEE Computer Society.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EArkin, a Regents\u0027 Professor in Interactive Computing whose research focus is in robotics, will serve as a\u003Cbr \/\u003E\ngovernor from 2010-12 for IEEE SSIT. The organization\u0027s 2,000 members worldwide address such issues as environmental, health and safety\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nimplications of technology; engineering ethics and professional\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nresponsibility; history of electrotechnology; technical expertise and\u003Cbr \/\u003E\npublic policy; peace technology; and social issues related to energy,\u003Cbr \/\u003E\ninformation technology and telecommunications. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EConte, a professor who heads up the School of Computer Science\u0027s architecture group, also will serve a\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n2010-12 term as governor for the IEEE Computer Society, whose 85,000 members\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nwork in a wide range of computing fields, from artificial intelligence\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nto networking, to software engineering and graphics processing.\u003C\/p\u003E","summary":null,"format":"limited_html"}],"field_subtitle":"","field_summary":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003ECollege of Computing professors Ron Arkin and Tom Conte have been\nelected to\nthree-year terms on the Boards of Governors for two IEEE (Institute of\nElectrical and Electronics Engineers) societies.
