{"51063":{"#nid":"51063","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Professor Named to DARPA Study Group","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EAssistant Professor Rich Vuduc of the Computational Science and\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nEngineering Division is one of 12 junior faculty in the U.S. to be\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nnamed to a highly selective research study group sponsored by the\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nDefense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nThe Computer Science Study Group (CSSG) is a program that supports\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nuniversity research in computer science and related fields while\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nallowing younger researchers to become more knowledgeable about\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nDepartment of Defense (DoD) information technology needs and\u003Cbr \/\u003E\npriorities. Through his participation in this group, Vuduc could\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nreceive up to $1 million in research funding over two to four years.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nThe first year of the three-phase membership consists of a series of\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nbriefings and visits by participants to various DoD sites and\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nfacilities, as well as individual research programs. Vuduc said the 12\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nmembers of the 2009 group will jump out of a 34\u0027 tower in a paratrooper\u003Cbr \/\u003E\ntraining exercise and participate in a live in-flight refueling\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nexercise program.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nAccording to application materials for this year\u2019s competition, \u201cThe\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n2009 CSSG program goal is to identify and develop innovative ideas with\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nhigh payoff in computer science and related disciplines.
