{"51155":{"#nid":"51155","#data":{"type":"news","title":"First Foley Scholars Named","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThe Foley Scholars Endowment has named Kelly Caine, a Ph.D. student in\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nthe School of Psychology, and Christopher Le Dantec, a Ph.D. student\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nspecializing in human-centered computing from the School of\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nInteractive Computing, as the 2008-2009 Foley Scholars. The Foley Scholars\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nEndowment was established a year ago during the 15th Anniversary of\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nthe GVU Center and each year provides direct financial gifts of $5,000 to\u003Cbr \/\u003E\ntwo outstanding graduate students active in research at GVU. The award\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nwas established by colleagues of Jim Foley and GVU alumni to honor\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nFoley\u2019s significant contributions in the field of computing, his\u003Cbr \/\u003E\ninfluence on the work of others and his dedication to the development\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nof new research directions. This year\u0027s Foley Scholars were selected by\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nan advisory board comprised of GVU alumni, current faculty and industry\u003Cbr \/\u003E\npartners. Caine and Le Dantec were selected from a group\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nof eight finalists: Ben Davison, Nick Diakopoulos, Marshini Chetty,\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nMatt Flagg, Erika Poole and Thomas Smyth, all Ph.D. students in\u003Cbr \/\u003E\ncomputing.
