Other Tech students have decided to join together in an \u201calternative\u201d spring break, giving back to both national and international communities.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EA few places where Yellow Jackets are spending this week include:\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Ch5\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/gatechasb\u0022\u003EAlternative Service Breaks (ASB)\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/h5\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EBiloxi, Mississippi\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EStudents participating in the ASB trip to Biloxi, Mississippi, will serve with HeadStart and the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/youtu.be\/r8li9r5LRsg\u0022\u003EBoys and Girls Club\u003C\/a\u003E to help improve childhood education. Georgia Tech students will spend the week tutoring area preschool students from low-income families in math and reading. These programs help make preschool education more affordable and motivate children academically from a young age.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EMemphis, Tennessee\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe ASB Memphis trip will work with the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.midsouthfoodbank.org\/\u0022\u003EMid South Food Bank\u003C\/a\u003E. The Mid South Food Bank is dedicated to feeding those who are food insecure, meaning that they do not have access to enough food to meet basic needs. The food bank operates on food donations and monetary donations to meet the needs of families, children, and seniors in the region.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EJacksonville, Florida\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe ASB group in Jacksonville will work with \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/youtu.be\/1JZmMPosAdc\u0022\u003EHabitat for Humanity\u003C\/a\u003E to address issues in poverty housing. Habitat for Humanity of Jacksonville has housed more than 1,900 area families. Through Habitat for Humanity, low income families can find affordable, high-quality housing and receive assistance in becoming successful homeowners.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ETaos, New Mexico\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EStudents attending the ASB trip to Taos, New Mexico, will also work with Habitat for Humanity. This homebuilding project will be a unique learning experience for volunteers because the homes will be made using adobe bricks. Adobe bricks are distinctive to warm, dry climates and are made using organic earth materials.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Ch5\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/georgiatechtrailblazers.com\/\u0022\u003ETrailblazers\u0027 Alternative Spring Break\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/h5\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EKey Largo, Florida\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe Traiblazers student group is headed to \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/pennekamppark.com\/\u0022\u003EJohn Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park\u003C\/a\u003E. Three days of the trip will be spent building endangered species habitats and cleaning beach areas. Students will also participate in a manatee swimming tour and a turtle hospital visit. The John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, established in 1963, was the first undersea park in the U.S.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ECumberland Island, Georgia\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EAnother Trailblazers group will head to \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/cuis\/index.htm\u0022\u003ECumberland Island\u003C\/a\u003E, Georgia, one of the state\u2019s 12 Barrier Islands. Students will spend time hiking through the forests and beaches, sea kayaking, and exploring wildlife on the island. The service aspect of this trip will include trail maintenance and trail mapping for Crooked River State Park.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Ch5\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.gtccf.org\/\u0022\u003ECampus Christian Fellowship\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/h5\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EJuarez, Mexico\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ETwenty-five students will be traveling with Campus Christian Fellowship to Juarez, Mexico. During the week, students will build two houses through the organization \u003Ca href=\u0022casasporcristo.org\u0022\u003ECasas por Cristo\u003C\/a\u003E.
