Arch \u002799) Atlanta Beltline almost didn\u2019t become the Atlanta Beltline","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003ERyan Gravel\u2019s real-life story is already becoming the stuff of legend:\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EHow, as a Georgia Tech Architecture and City Planning grad student in the late 1990\u2019s, he hit on what seemed like a sort of out-there thesis idea \u2014 take four old railroad \u201cbelt lines\u201d encircling downtown Atlanta and link them together to spur development and reconnect communities \u2014 and wound up creating the one-of-a-kind, still evolving Atlanta Beltline.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ETelling that story again isn\u2019t why Gravel wrote \u201cWhere We Want to Live\u201d \u2014 not exactly, anyway. Instead, the new book that comes out Tuesday is meant as his big, \u201cAttaboy!\u201d to all of us here in Atlanta. And also, well, his enthusiastic \u201cKeep it up!\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cI really believe we wouldn\u2019t be building the Beltline if it weren\u2019t for the fact that the people of Atlanta fell in love with the idea and made it happen,\u201d Gravel said in an interview. \u201cThe real power, as we move forward is that people continue to have that sense of ownership in it.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EAnd to think it might never have happened.
