Human Computer Interaction Student Receives STAR Award

(November 7, 2006)--College of Computing graduate student Lan Guo was recently recognized with a BellSouth STAR Award for user interface design and usability services provided to client organizations. Guo is a Master’s student in Human-Computer Interaction, and is a GVU Center intern assigned to BellSouth’s Human Factors Laboratory.

"Lan did a truly outstanding job providing valuable user interface input,” says BellSouth Research Director Chet McQuaide. In addition to her ability, Guo was also praised for her teamwork and responsiveness to client needs, taking a dated interface that was extremely cluttered and overwhelming, and creating one that is much more user-friendly. “On behalf of BellSouth,” said McQuaide, “we cannot praise Lan's work highly enough, and consider ourselves very luck to have her on our team."

Guo received her STAR Award at a recent BellSouth team meeting. “Her award is an indication both of her personal contributions, and of the value BellSouth receives from its partnership with GVU’s Human Factors Internship Program and the outstanding College of Computing graduate students who staff this program.” Guo’s award will be highlighted in the upcoming quarterly issue of BellSouth’s Architecture and Emerging Technology newsletter.
