{"526901":{"#nid":"526901","#data":{"type":"news","title":"The College Celebrates the Spring Faculty and Staff Luncheon","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThe Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts Spring Faculty and Staff Recognition Luncheon was held on Tuesday, April 19.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EDean \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.iac.gatech.edu\/people\/faculty\/royster\u0022\u003EJacqueline Royster\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;recognized the accomplishments of the College throughout the year noting that, \u201cThe world hungers for more holistically forged solutions for more complexly defined challenges, and this is what we do.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ERoyster presented\u0026nbsp; \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.iac.gatech.edu\/community\/alumniandgiving\/contacts\/JuanMcGruder\u0022\u003EJuan McGruder\u003C\/a\u003E, the director of development for the College, with a personalized gift (a bowtie) in appreciation for his \u201cdetermination, tenaciousness, patience, expertise, relentless optimism, and persistent commitment\u201d in achieving and exceeding the ambitious fundraising Campaign Georgia Tech goal for the College.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ERecipients of the Distinguished Staff Awards, also known as \u201cBuzz\u201d Awards were Ed Able (Modern Languages), Jade Hill (Economics), and Keven Pittman (Office of Information Technology) for their administrative services. Elizabeth Miller (Office of Undergraduate Services) received an award for Student Services. Each award carries a $1,000 check.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EProfessor \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.iac.gatech.edu\/people\/faculty\/birchfield\u0022\u003EVicki Birchfield\u003C\/a\u003E from the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs presented Andre Desmedt an award for his dedicated service of fifteen years to the French study abroad programs at Georgia Tech. This was Desmedt\u2019s first time visiting the United States.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EAssociate Dean of Undergraduate Students \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/dev.iac.gatech.edu\/people\/faculty\/tone\u0022\u003EJohn Tone\u003C\/a\u003E introduced the Student Advisory Board student who presented the Distinguished Teaching Awards. \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.iac.gatech.edu\/people\/faculty\/dunger\u0022\u003EAmy D\u2019Unger\u003C\/a\u003E from the School of History and Sociology received the award for non-tenure track faculty. \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.iac.gatech.edu\/people\/faculty\/jafarinaimi\u0022\u003ENassim JafariNaimi\u003C\/a\u003E from the School of Literature, Media, and Communication received the award for tenure track faculty.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EDean Royster presented the Faculty Researcher Awards: \u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe Gold Star \u2013 Level 1 awards recognize faculty who, for the first time, garner $100,000 or more in external research dollars. Recipients receive a $500 travel award. Gold Star 1 recipients are: Paul Baker, Jenna Jordan, Gordon Kingsley, Juan Moreno-Cruz, Milton Mueller, Michael Salomone, and Zachary Mark Taylor.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe Gold Star \u2013 Level 2 awards recognize faculty who bring in external research dollars above $100,000 subsequent to the Gold Star 1 or have received prestigious fellowships. They receive\u0026nbsp;a $750 travel award. Recipients are: Kaye Husbands Fealing and Juan Rogers.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe Million Dollar Club recognizes faculty who have accumulated more than $1 million dollars in research over time. Recognition includes a $1,000 travel fund. This year,\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.iac.gatech.edu\/people\/faculty\/klein_1\u0022\u003ELauren Klein\u003C\/a\u003E joined the Club, the members of which include: Ian Bogost, Danny Boston, Marilyn Brown, Carl DiSalvo, Ute Fischer, Vicki Galloway, Sy Goodman, Chris LeDantec, Brian Magerko, Julia Melkers, Helena Mitchell, Phil Shapira, and Adam Stulberg.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe Distinguished Faculty Researcher Award, carrying a one-time $20,000 research award, was awarded to \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.iac.gatech.edu\/people\/faculty\/telotte\u0022\u003EJay P. Telotte\u003C\/a\u003E from the School of Literature, Media, and Communication.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ETo close the festivities, Dean Royster awarded two crystal awards to members of the faculty and staff who are retiring at the end of the year. She recognized Tina Lambert, director of Finance Administration for the College, and Gregory Nobles, professor in the School of History and Sociology.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cAs I\u2019ve said now on many occasions, we are not your grandfather\u2019s liberal arts,\u201d Dean Royster reminded the attendees. \u201cWe are innovative pacesetters for the 21\u003Csup\u003Est\u003C\/sup\u003E century.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cMy thanks go to all of you \u2014 faculty, staff, and students \u2014 for making it so.
