But that\u0026rsquo;s just the beginning of a successful career.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;To thrive in our community, new hires must be prepared to exercise sound ethical judgment, act with civility in the workplace, and take individual responsibility for the Institute\u0026rsquo;s policies and legal obligations,\u0026rdquo; said Travis Waugh, instructional technologist for Human Resources. \u0026ldquo;These are among the core expectations of all Georgia Tech employees, and they are just as vital to the Institute\u0026rsquo;s long-term success as any professional skill or competency.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ETo ensure these needs are met, last fall, Human Resources introduced a New Hire Learning and Compliance program for all onboarding employees.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThis new program merges the Institute\u0026rsquo;s legal training mandates, employment policies, and timely topics impacting higher education into a single, convenient format that new hires can access and complete online. The full program takes approximately six hours to complete and covers:\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cul\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EEthical decision-making.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EWorkplace conduct.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003ETitle IX and anti-harassment.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003ECybersecurity.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EConflicts of interest.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EThe Georgia Tech Policy Library \u0026mdash; including the process by which new policies are written, reviewed, and implemented.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\u003C\/ul\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAll new employees are automatically enrolled within their first week and receive an email with instructions on how to complete the program.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EManagers should allocate time for their direct reports to complete the online program within their first 30 days. Managers are also encouraged to engage their new employees in a discussion of the program, underscoring their personal commitment to the policies and principles the program has discussed.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EHuman Resources revitalized its compliance approach to demonstrate a better way to manage risk and redefine its collective expectations of how genuinely impactful a compliance training program can be. By providing newly hired employees with a solid ethics and compliance foundation, the New Hire Learning and Compliance program is enabling other exciting initiatives at the Institute. The next phases of the CAR will launch this month.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ETo support the findings from the Opportunity Identification Survey conducted in December, Huron Consulting will begin conducting interviews and focus groups on campus beginning January 8. Individuals and select groups are being contacted to begin the scheduling process.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EBeginning January 16, approximately 3,500 staff employees at Tech will be asked to participate in the Activity Assessment to better understand how resources are allocated to perform the various administrative functions. The assessment will be open from Jan. 16 to 30. Those selected to participate will receive additional communications including emails sent directly from \u003Cem\u003EGeorgia Tech \u0026shy;\u0026ndash; CAR Activity Assessment\u003C\/em\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EParticipation in the assessment is mandatory for the selected individuals and should take, on average, 30 minutes to complete. In addition, supervisors and managers will be asked to review and validate the assessment submissions between Feb. 5 and Feb. 13. \u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EPrior to the launch of the Activity Assessment, staff and supervisors are encouraged to review resources prepared to assist in the implementation of this assessment.
