Drew Charter in Atlanta. The program that is held on campus is designed to encourage a diverse group of students from low-income families to realize their full potential by providing academic, cultural, and recreational experiences during the summer. Additional academic support is provided to students during the school year.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EHorizons at Georgia Tech\u2019s Summer programming by Georgia Tech\u2019s Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics and Computing (\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ceismc.gatech.edu\/\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003ECEISMC\u003C\/a\u003E), a unit of the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/cos.gatech.edu\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003ECollege of Sciences\u003C\/a\u003E.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cReading is such an important component of the Horizons Program. The Mystery Reader program is designed to bring in campus and community volunteers to engage the Horizons students in reading and share the importance of reading.\u201d said Program Director Sirocus Barnes.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ESome of this year\u2019s Mystery Readers included Georgia Tech President G.P. \u201cBud\u201d Peterson, College of Science Dean Paul M. Goldbart, and CEISMC Executive Director Lizanne DeStefano.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EPresident Peterson read to Mr. Lyles\u0027 rising fifth grade class from the book \u003Cem\u003EIs There Really a Human Race?\u003C\/em\u003E by author and actress Jamie Lee Curtis. Before starting, he mentioned that Jamie Lee Curtis is one of his \u201cfavorite actresses\u201d. While he read, President Peterson engaged the students with questions about the story.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EPresident Peterson also answered many questions from his young audience such as, What was your favorite moment in life? The answer: \u201cWhen I went bowling one day and met my wife. He also shared that his favorite entertainer is the musician Meat Loaf, as well as insights on what it is like to be the president of a university.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EDean Goldbart read to Mrs. Thompson\u0027s rising fourth grade class. \u201cI loved being a part of CEISMC\u2019s Horizons program as a Mystery Reader for an inquisitive, smart, funny, engaged group of rising forth-graders,\u201d he said. After apologizing for his pronunciation of the U.S. President\u2019s name \u2013 \u201cIt just doesn\u2019t sound right with a British accent,\u201d- he said he was excited to share with them \u003Cem\u003EOf Thee I Sing: A Letter to My Daughters\u003C\/em\u003E, by Barack Obama.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EGoldbart was so pleased with the book the Horizons team chose \u201cbecause of its moving connections to Atlanta, to science, and much, much more.\u201d He added: \u201cI very much appreciate the invitation from Sirocus Barnes and his fellow members of the Horizons team, and I continue to be impressed and inspired by the outstanding impact they have on so many young Atlantans\u201d.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EMs. Johnson\u0027s rising second grade class enjoyed Lizanne Destefano reading the book \u003Cem\u003EWhere the Wild Things Are,\u003C\/em\u003E by writer and illustrator Maurice Sendak.
