Our master of ceremony will be Jeff Garbers, GT Venture Lab. A Q&A will also be held with our contestants at the conclusion of the event. Students, Faculty and Staff are welcome to attend.

The Scheller College of Business is located in Midtown Atlanta in Technology Square, located right off Interstate 75/85, occupying the block between Spring and West Peachtree NW Streets and Fifth and Armstead Streets. We are in the same block and building as the campus bookstore, Barnes and Noble, located at the corner of Fifth and Spring streets. The Scheller College of Business’ primary entrance faces West Peachtree St. and is accessible without a BuzzCard from 7:45 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. All other entrances require a BuzzCard to enter the building.

Parking

A parking deck, attached to the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center, offers easy and convenient parking. It's accessible from Spring Street and hourly rates are from $1.50 (for less than an hour) to $15 for the day. The parking garage address is 770 Spring St. NW, Atlanta, GA 30308-1031. Limited metered street parking is also available.

Beginning July 6

The Maker Movement has seen a large increase in the need to infuse innovation and entrepreneurship into STEM courses. Helping students develop “innovation literacy” is becoming a new aspect of STEM education. Incorporating creativity techniques, games, as well as innovation techniques can greatly improve students’ interest in the subject matter, improve problem solving abilities, but also helps see how the STEM work relates to real world applications.

Each week, students will pre-read an article related to one of the following techniques: creativity, games, use of analogies, design thinking. Each synchronous session will provide additional details as well as a hands-on activity to help participants see how to integrate the technique.

This is a synchronous on-line course provided by the CIRTL network, which can be viewed privately at your own location OR you can join our learning community “viewing party”.

Course dates: Four Wednesdays: July 6, July 13, July 20, July 27
Times: 1:00 to 2:30PM ET

]]> <![CDATA[Celebrating Teaching Day 2016]]> 27276 Save the date to for Celebrating Teaching Day 2016 on March 15, 2016 from 10:30am-1pm! We hope you will be able to join us to be inspired by the practices and initiatives your colleagues are using to help their students make real world connections between their classes and their goals, communities, the environment, and the world. This event will begin with an educator poster session featuring research-based teaching initiatives underway on campus, followed by educator honors and a luncheon. To conclude the event Georgia Tech faculty members will inspire participants to keep improving as teachers as the invited speakers share effective teaching strategies and innovative educational initiatives that enhance their students’ learning. Following these Lightning Talks, participants will have the opportunity to engage in roundtable discussions with the speaker(s) whose ideas most resonated with them.

]]> <![CDATA[Teaching Transformations in Response to Student Feedback]]> 27276 A continuous stream of information through formative classroom assessments, early course feedback, and final student evaluations helps instructors understand how well students are learning in response to their approaches to teaching. Sometimes this feedback tells us what we don’t want to hear: that students aren’t responding well, that they need something different in order to meet the goals we’ve set for them. In this session, we will hear from three Georgia Tech faculty members who have done the hard work of taking this feedback seriously, transforming their approach to teaching, and measurably helped improve their students’ teaching as a result.

In fact, public speaking is one of the most common fears people share. This workshop provides strategies and tips for preparing and delivering dynamic oral presentations. Understanding the fundamentals for preparing an oral presentation will help in alleviating some of the anxiety you may encounter when you present at your next conference or job interview.
