{"55674":{"#nid":"55674","#data":{"type":"profile","title":"Stuart Romm","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EStuart Romm is a senior lecturer, having taught both graduate and undergraduate architectural design studios, plus the professional practice course, in the College of Architecture for 19 years.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ERomm is a founding principal in both the Atlanta firms of Romm + Pearsall and Praxis3 Architecture, both multi-disciplinary practices in Atlanta focused on civic and educational buildings, advanced automotive facilities, and urban social housing.\u0026nbsp; In these roles he has developed a special expertise in confronting the emerging intersections between media technologies and public space, as foregrounded in downtown projects for the CNN headquarters (in collaboration with Diller + Scofidio, NY), Elegba infrastructure, and Heritage Park.\u0026nbsp; He has also held a special interest in the challenges of affordable housing, beginning with Romm + Pearsall\u2019s award-winning entry to the Progressive Architecture \u2018Affordable Housing Initiative\u2019, and more recently in Praxis3\u2019s Renaissance Walk project on historic Auburn Avenue that won a South Atlantic Region AIA Honor Award in 2009.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ERomm has been invited to present many of these projects in numerous conferences such as the 2002 CIB Tokyo Conference on \u2018Urban Regeneration\u2019, the Nexus Symposium on \u2018Space and Place in the New South\u2019, and the AIA national convention on \u2018Everyday Urbanism\u2019.\u0026nbsp; He and Fred Pearsall were commissioned among ten national firms by The Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati to design an experimental house for the exhibition \u201cThe Architect\u2019s Dream - Houses for the Next Millennium\u0022, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Graham Foundation. \u0026nbsp;The collaborative team of Praxis3, EDAW, and BNIM was recently awarded first place in the national \u2018City of the Future\u2019 design competition sponsored by the History Channel to envision alternative urban paradigms for sustainable growth.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;Romm was also lead designer for the recently completed Fire Station No. 2 in Decatur, which won a 2011 AIA Georgia Citation Design Award.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EBorn in Atlanta, Romm received his architectural degree from Cornell University, and after graduation, returned to Atlanta to intern with John Portman and Associates for several years before starting his original private practice in 1982.\u003C\/p\u003E","summary":null,"format":"limited_html"}],"field_subtitle":"","field_summary":"","field_summary_sentence":"","uid":"27369","created_gmt":"2010-05-13 10:43:42","changed_gmt":"2016-03-31 03:37:41","author":"Erin Howe","boilerplate_text":"","field_publication":"","field_article_url":"","extras":[],"hg_media":{"519651":{"id":"519651","type":"image","title":"Stuart Romm 03\/2016","body":null,"created":"1459515600","gmt_created":"2016-04-01 13:00:00","changed":"1475895286","gmt_changed":"2016-10-08 02:54:46","alt":"Stuart Romm 03\/2016","file":{"fid":"205263","name":"romm_stuart_office_setting_2.jpg","image_path":"\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/romm_stuart_office_setting_2_0.jpg","image_full_path":"http:\/\/www.tlwarc.hg.gatech.edu\/\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/romm_stuart_office_setting_2_0.jpg","mime":"image\/jpeg","size":305548,"path_740":"http:\/\/www.tlwarc.hg.gatech.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/740xx_scale\/public\/images\/romm_stuart_office_setting_2_0.jpg?itok=fxv6ZEYI"}}},"media_ids":["519651"],"groups":[{"id":"1221","name":"College of Design"},{"id":"48996","name":"School of Architecture"}],"categories":[],"keywords":[],"core_research_areas":[],"news_room_topics":[],"event_categories":[],"invited_audience":[],"affiliations":[{"id":"9276","name":"School of Architecture"}],"classification":["Faculty"],"areas_of_expertise":[],"news_and_recent_appearances":[],"phone":{"work":"6789047422"},"contact":[],"email":["stuart.romm@arch.gatech.edu"],"slides":[],"orientation":[],"userdata":""}}}
