WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH TALK
THURSDAY, MARCH 18, 4:00 PM
CLARY THEATRE, STUDENT SUCCESS CENTER

DR. MAB SEGREST

In honor of Women's History Month, Dr. Mab Segrest, the Fuller-Matthai Professor of Gender and Women's Studies at Connecticut College, will be giving a talk entitled "Gender, 'Lunacy Administration,' and the Milledgeville State Hospital." Dr. Segrest is a scholar of gender and sexuality, critical race theory, and social movements. She is the author of several books (including the award-winning Memoir of a Race Traitor) and numerous scholarly articles, and is currently a Fellow at the James Weldon Johnson Institute at Emory University. Her current research links her interests in Southern studies and political movements. Using archival materials and oral histories, Segrest explores the links between the African-American civil rights movement and the movement for the rights of psychiatric patients. Dr. Segrest has worked as a teacher, scholar, activist, and organizer for over thirty years.

This talk is sponsored by the School of History, Technology, and Society and co-sponsored by the Women's Resource Center.
