Three local scientists have been researching cancer treatments. A new partnership announced today brings them together in hopes of better results. Dr. Shafiq Khan directs Clark Atlanta University's Center for Cancer Research and Therapeutic Development. He has the prostate cancer research but needs samples for testing. That's where the Ovarian Cancer Institute comes in... Dr. John McDonald directs the Ovarian Cancer Institute. He says researchers have unsuccessfully tried the same treatment for different cancers. McDonald says each cancer and each person is different. MCDONALD: " and what we need to do is to move cancer therapy to that point where we recognize that fact and we generate individualized and personalized medicine to treat cancer." The Collaborative Cancer Genomics Center will look at what causes prostate, ovarian, pancreatic and lung cancer. The center also includes Georgia Tech and the Georgia Research Alliance.
