Topics discussed included demographic patterns affecting disease emergence, global migration implications for the southeast, waterborne disease risk and climate change, vectorborne diseases old and new, and foodborne disease issues.

Following the conference, Professor Kosal participated in an invitation-only workshop, the Southeast Region Tabletop Exercise, that will include academics, state health officials, laboratory directors, state and public health veterinarians, and representatives of federal organizations. They identified the issues that arise during a multi-state outbreak in the southeast in order to analyze and alleviate gaps in existing procedures.
