{"575031":{"#nid":"575031","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Ant\u00f3n to Step Down as School of IC Chair at End of Current Appointment","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EProfessor Annie Ant\u00f3n, chair of Georgia Tech\u2019s School of Interactive Computing, has announced she will complete her term as school chair but will not seek an additional five-year appointment.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cMy principal research areas are privacy and cybersecurity,\u201d\u0026nbsp;said Ant\u00f3n.\u0026nbsp;\u201cThose areas are in the midst of a period of historic growth and importance, and I believe I can have my greatest impact by focusing my energies on researching those topics.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIn 2016, President Obama named Ant\u00f3n as one of twelve members of the ongoing \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/blog\/2016\/04\/13\/announcing-presidents-commission-enhancing-national-cybersecurity\u0022\u003ECommission on Enhancing National Cybersecurity\u003C\/a\u003E. In 2014-15, she was a member of the Organizing Committee for the Computing Research Association\/Computing Community Consortium series of Catalyst workshops on Privacy by Design. Ant\u00f3n also serves as a scientific and policy adviser in roles including as a member of the NIST Information Security and Privacy Advisory Board and with the U.S. Department of Defense.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EAnt\u00f3n, who received three degrees from Georgia Tech in the 1990s,\u0026nbsp;was named chair of Interactive Computing in 2012 after 14 years as a professor in the Department of Computer Science at North Carolina State University. There she served as director of the CSC Policy and Compliance Initiative, was a member of the NCSU Cyber Defense Lab, and founded \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/theprivacyplace.org\/\u0022\u003EThePrivacyPlace.org\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cWe all thank Annie Ant\u00f3n for her tireless work and energy as chair of the School of Interactive Computing,\u201d said Zvi Galil, the John P. Imlay Jr. Dean of Computing at Georgia Tech. \u201cDuring her time as chair, Professor Ant\u00f3n has hired a notable number of outstanding new faculty, who support the continued growth in student enrollment in computing. Professor Ant\u00f3n has a remarkable passion for Georgia Tech, even carrying the school flag to the top of Mt.
