Georgia Tech and Saint Joseph's Partner to Fund New Seed Grant Program

Georgia Institute of Technology and Saint Joseph’s Translational Research Institute (SJTRI) have extending their research partnership to offer a joint Seed Grant Program. The Georgia Tech – SJTRI Seed Grant allocates funds for pilot research projects that are conducted by scientists from both institutions. The projects selected for funding must show promise for successful collaboration and future translation of discoveries to clinical applications.

The inaugural round of the program received ten applications with a total of twenty-five investigators contributing to the proposals. A panel consisting of principals from both Georgia Tech and SJTRI reviewed all applications and selected two promising projects. The Seed Grant Awards are for a one year period in the amount of $50,000 for each of the funded projects.

The following projects were awarded at the Georgia Tech - SJTRI Workshop on April 28, 2010: Improved Cardiac Function and Cellular Retention Using a Novel Acellular Matrix, submitted by Dr. Traci Goodchild of SJTRI and Dr. Todd McDevitt of Georgia Tech, and Application of Metabolomics to Lung Cancer Diagnosis, submitted by Drs. Facundo Fernández, John McDonald, and Alexander Gray of Georgia Tech, and Dr. Paul Scheinberg of Saint Joseph’s Hospital.
