  <title><![CDATA[Times Higher Education Ranks GT Computing No. 5 Globally]]></title>
  <body><![CDATA[<p>GT Computing ranked No. 5 globally in the Times Higher Education <a href="https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/2017/subject-ranking/computer-science#!/page/0/length/25/sort_by/rank_label/sort_order/asc/cols/rank_only">World University Rankings&nbsp;2016-17 by subject</a>. This is the first time the study of computer science has been included as part of these annual rankings.</p>

<p>&ldquo;This ranking is a testament to the College of Computing&rsquo;s growing global reputation for excellence,&rdquo; said Dean Zvi Galil. &ldquo;Our people and our approach to education are pushing forward on what is possible and driving social and scientific progress through computer science.&rdquo;</p>

<p>Released Sept. 28, the Times Higher Ed. subject rankings highlight the top 10 universities around the world in eight subjects. These include computer science, arts &amp; humanities, business and economics, clinical and health, engineering and technology, life sciences, physical sciences, and social sciences.</p>

<p>According to the report, the rankings for computer science are based on &ldquo;13 carefully calibrated performance indicators to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons, trusted by students, academics, university leaders, industry and governments.&rdquo; These indicators are grouped into five primary categories,</p>

<ul>
	<li>Teaching</li>
	<li>Research</li>
	<li>Citations</li>
	<li>International outlook</li>
	<li>Industry income</li>
</ul>

<p>In the broader&nbsp;<a href="https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/2017/world-ranking#!/page/1/length/25/sort_by/rank_label/sort_order/asc/cols/rank_only">World University Rankings for 2016-17</a> that were announced last week, <a href="http://www.news.gatech.edu/2016/09/22/georgia-tech-climbs-world-university-rankings">Georgia Tech climbed eight spots</a> to No. 33 of the 980 on the list.</p>
