583502 news 1478193010 1478276089 In a collaboration with CEISMC at Georgia Tech, the Michael R. Hollis Innovation Academy has formed a new afterschool STEM program entitled “Hollis Hackers”. The goal of the program for 3rd and 4th graders is to inspire interest in computer sciences and engineering. This is a part of an initiative to aid Hollis Innovation Academy in obtaining STEM certification from The Georgia Department of Education.

In the first session, held on October 2, 2016, students explored the various parts of a computer such as the motherboard, internal fan, and memory with Georgia Tech CEISMC’s Information Technology Support Professional, Justin Turner. As part of this activity the students deconstructed and reconstructed computers and identified each component. Students were excited to be able to work with computers and enjoyed the hands-on learning experience.
