{"583914":{"#nid":"583914","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Student-Athlete Graduate Success Rate Breaks Record","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EGeorgia Tech athletics\u0026rsquo; NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) has reached an all-time high of 87 percent, according to the latest data released by the NCAA on Tuesday.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EGeorgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s 87-percent GSR is its highest since the NCAA began using the metric in 2005 and marks the fourth-straight year that Tech\u0026rsquo;s GSR has increased.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAt 87 percent, Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s GSR also surpasses the Division I average of 84 percent.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIndividually, 10 of Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s 13 sports* have GSRs higher than the national average for their respective sports and five programs \u0026ndash; men\u0026rsquo;s cross country\/track and field, women\u0026rsquo;s cross country\/track and field, golf, women\u0026rsquo;s tennis and volleyball \u0026ndash; own perfect 100-percent GSRs.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;We are proud of the efforts of our student-athletes, coaches and student services staff in lifting Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s Graduation Success Rate to an all-time-high,\u0026rdquo; interim director of athletics \u003Cstrong\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.ramblinwreck.com\/sports\/admin\/mtt\/paul_griffin_1028344.html\u0022\u003EPaul Griffin\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/strong\u003E said. \u0026ldquo;One of the ultimate goals for our student-athletes is to earn a degree that will set them on a path for success in life. This data shows that we continue to make great progress in achieving that goal.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EGSR measures the success of an athletics department in graduating its student-athletes within a six-year period. Unlike Federal Graduation Rate, which assesses only first-time, full-time freshmen, GSR also includes transfer students and mid-year enrollees in the sample. Student-athletes who leave an institution while in good academic standing before exhausting athletics eligibility are removed from the cohort of their initial institution (essentially passed to another squad\u0026rsquo;s GSR cohort if they transfer and removed altogether in the case of early departures for professional careers).
