  <title><![CDATA[2017 Cherry Emerson Lecture: K. Barry Sharpless]]></title>
  <body><![CDATA[<p>Discovering new molecules for functional purposes is at the heart of chemical research. Nobel Laureate&nbsp;K. Barry Sharpless has pioneered an approach to this endeavor that frees the investigator from difficulties of chemical synthesis, the better to focus on the desired function. Known as &ldquo;click chemistry,&rdquo; this approach has been adopted by scientists in diverse fields from biochemistry to materials. Prof. Sharpless will describe his latest additions to click chemistry methods, as well as the motivating concepts that have guided this revolution in the molecular sciences and engineering.</p>
