The popular cloud-based file storage service offers a convenient way to securely store and sync files in a central location. \u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;Offering faculty and staff a centralized and easy-to-access data storage service can greatly enhance the security of research data and intellectual property,\u0026rdquo; said Rachel Moorehead, senior support manager for Architecture \u0026amp; Infrastructure in the Office of Information Technology. \u0026ldquo;Plus, this service will add to our external collaboration options and simplify the way we access and share files on a day-to-day basis with third parties.\u0026rdquo;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EOnce a Dropbox account has been set up, a user can access files, both on and off campus, from any computer or mobile device using a web browser or by installing the Dropbox app. According to Moorehead, while users can safely store confidential information, such as FERPA, HIPAA, and encrypted data within Dropbox, it is important to be mindful of whom the data is being shared with.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EFeatures of the Dropbox service include:\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cul\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EUnlimited file storage.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EVersion roll-back and deletion recovery.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003ERemote access to work files without VPN.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EEasy and secure sharing and collaboration tools.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\u003C\/ul\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EUsers who have an existing Dropbox account, whether free or paid-for, can migrate their existing account to Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s Dropbox service or opt to keep the existing account separate.
