586223 news 1484927459 1484927459 <![CDATA[The Economic Benefits of International Students ]]> There are many ways that international students benefit our university, our state, and our country. In the 2015/2016 academic year there were 1,043,839 international students enrolled in a US university, 21,122 enrolled in a university in Georgia, and 4,073 enrolled at Georgia Tech.  Each year NAFSA: Association of International Educators releases a report that details the economic benefit of international student enrollment to the United States. This year international students contributed $32.8 billion to the US economy and created or supported 400,812 jobs. For every seven international students enrolled, three US jobs are created and supported by spending occurring in the higher education, accommodation, dining, retail, transportation, telecommunications, and health insurance sectors. In Georgia, international students contributed $683.4 million and created or supported 9,482 jobs. Georgia Tech international students contributed $160.7 million and created or supported 2,758 jobs. The economic contributions of international students are in addition to the immeasurable academic and cultural value these students bring to our campuses and local communities.
