{"58754":{"#nid":"58754","#data":{"type":"event","title":"\\\u0022Smog is Democratic\\\u0022 Part of Special Exhibit at CDC","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003E\u0022Smog is Democratic\u0022 by School of Literature, Communication, and Culture Assistant Professor Carl DiSalvo and Digital Media PhD student Jonathan Lukens opened June 15 as part of a special exhibit at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Global Health Odyssey Museum. \n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EThe exhibit, \u0022Consequential Matters\u0022 brings together art and science to investigate the consequences of urbanization, technology, consumption, indulgence, and globalization. \n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EDiSalvo and Lukens \u0022Smog\u0022 is one of three featured installations, all by Atlanta-based artists.  \u0022Smog is Democratic\u0022 explores particulate matter through the medium of visualization. DiSalvo and Lukens present particulate matter as a residue of life. \u0022An investigation of particulate matter touches multiple concerns: pollution, the relationship between urban living and hygiene, the tension between scientific and artistic representations of information, and the desire to produce measurement techniques that gauge the threat of the unseen.\u0022 The installation includes two large prints of data visualizations, a video of a data visualization, and twenty photographs.\n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EThe exhibit runs June 15 \u2013 September 11, 2009.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nFree admission and parking.
