587745 news 1487714077 1493321239 <![CDATA[Dhongde Presents Research on Multidimensional Deprivation at Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation of Atlanta]]> Shatakshee Dhongde, an assistant professor in the Ivan Allen College School of Economics, presented her research at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation of Atlanta on February 14, 2017. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) is an independent agency created by the Congress to maintain stability and public confidence in the nation’s financial system.

Dhongde presented her research on “Multidimensional Deprivation in the U.S.” and discussed measures of multi-dimensional deprivation in the U.S. during the Great Recession. Results from the analysis indicate that the proportion of the population that experiences multidimensional deprivation averages about 15 percent and exceeds the prevalence of official income poverty. Lack of education, severe housing burden and lack of health insurance were some of the dimensions in which Americans experienced deprivation.
