The other team members were \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.columbia.edu\/%7Emc2775\/\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EMaria Chudnovsky\u003C\/a\u003E (Columbia University), \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.math.osu.edu\/people\/robertson.7\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003ENeal Robertson\u003C\/a\u003E (Ohio State University), and \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.math.princeton.edu\/%7Epds\/\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EPaul Seymour\u003C\/a\u003E (Princeton University). Thomas serves as Director of the Algorithms, Combinatorics and Optimization interdisciplinary Ph.D. program. He and his colleagues are being recognized for their paper: The Strong Perfect Graph Theorem, \u003Cem\u003EAnnals of Mathematics\u003C\/em\u003E Vol. 164 (2006), 51-229, in which they resolved the long-standing conjecture of Claude Berge: A graph is perfect if and only if it contains an odd hole or the complement of an odd hole as an induced subgraph (an odd hole is an odd cycle on five or more vertices).\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Fulkerson Prize is sponsored jointly by the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.ams.org\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EAmerican Mathematical Society\u003C\/a\u003E and the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.mathprog.org\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EMathematical Programming Society\u003C\/a\u003E. This year\u0026#39;s prize, including a $1500 cash award, will be presented at the opening session of the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/ismp2009.eecs.northwestern.edu\/\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003E20th International Symposium on Mathematical Programming\u003C\/a\u003E in Chicago, on August 23, 2009.
