{"589116":{"#nid":"589116","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Call for Pilot Project Proposals: The Living Building at Georgia Tech","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ECall for Pilot Project Proposals:\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nAdvancing Academic and Research Efforts\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nConnected to The Living Building at Georgia Tech\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cstrong\u003EProposals due:\u0026nbsp; Friday, April 14\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nSubmit to:\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cstrong\u003EGTLivingBuildingProposals@gatech.edu\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cstrong\u003EPublic Presentation: Friday, April 7, 2 to 4 p.m.\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ECampus wide Living Building Progress Presentation with the Design Team and Pilot Project Q\/A Session\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ECollege of Design Auditorium\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Living Building at Georgia Tech Academic \u0026amp; Research Council is accepting proposals for research, teaching and community based pilot ventures connected to the Living Building Project at Georgia Tech.\u0026nbsp; The maximum funding per project is $10,000. \u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nThe Living Building at Georgia Tech is a state of the art teaching, research and learning community under development in the center of campus and a key part of the emerging Sustainability Innovation Commons\/EcoCommons.\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nThe Living Building at Georgia Tech will be a cornerstone for a new series of investments at Tech over the next ten years which will rapidly accelerate progress in the Southeast\u0026rsquo;s regenerative building movement and serve as an incubator for advancing new ideas related to interdisciplinary thinking on sustainability.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nSuccessful pilot projects will promote Institute goals and priorities connected to sustainability through design, construction, outreach, educational and research opportunities and elevate new goals and priorities through collective learning and knowledge development.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nSuccessful projects will connect to areas such as: Dashboards\/Sensors\/Monitoring; Materials; Equity; Policy; Energy Conservation\/Power, Plug Load Management; Post-occupancy Behavior; Narrative Construction\/Storytelling; Performance Landscape; and other areas as yet determined.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EApplicants should submit a 1-2 page proposal narrative that:\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026bull; Describes the pilot project topic and its research significance\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026bull; Identifies connections to Living Building Challenge Petals or Imperatives\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026bull; Identifies teaching and research activities\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026bull; Identifies other audiences it might attract, including leverage for larger external research funding\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026bull; Discusses intended outcomes as well as any products that may result from the pilot project\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026bull; Includes a brief statement (1-2 paragraphs) articulating your\/your group interest in the Living Building including what you believe you can contribute to the Living Building and what you hope to achieve from participating\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026bull; Includes a brief description (1-2 paragraphs) of your\/your group research, teaching, or action objective that is consistent with the objectives of the Living Building.\u0026nbsp; If it\u0026rsquo;s not immediately obvious, make sure to explain how this objective will eventually relate to student learning.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026bull; Priority will be given to projects that touch on multiple petals\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EBudget and Timeline\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nA separate page should provide a detailed budget and timeline for planning and conducting the pilot project, specifying expenses by category:\u0026nbsp; i.e., faculty and student support, materials, honoraria, etc. Proposers are encouraged to seek support from their schools or outside donors to broaden the reach of the project.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nProposals can pertain to research area or topic of interest to a school, center, lab or faculty member.\u0026nbsp; Pilot projects will be chosen by April 20, with funding available immediately. The pilot project must be completed by May 31, 2018.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nWe will consider the first year of the Living Building Pilot project competition a great success if it leads to three to five excellent, high impact projects from academic and research units from across campus.
