Webster has been invited to attend the RMetS annual meeting in London on May 17 to receive the honor.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe honorary fellowship comes on the heels of other honors bestowed on Webster for his contributions to the field of atmospheric chemistry, especially his lifesaving work on \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/media.wix.com\/ugd\/867d28_f7f3852a70f04417b3909fcc0ee10b35.pdf\u0022\u003Epredicting devastating monsoon floods in Bangladesh\u003C\/a\u003E. Recent notable examples include the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.cos.gatech.edu\/hg\/item\/524411\u0022\u003EGeorgia Tech Sigma Xi Award\u003C\/a\u003E and the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.cos.gatech.edu\/hg\/item\/583752\u0022\u003ECreativity Prize of the Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Water\u003C\/a\u003E, which was presented last year to Webster at the United Nations building in New York City by members of the Saudi Arabian royal family and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon. As an Honorary Fellow, Webster finds himself in the company of Prince Charles, the society\u0026rsquo;s patron, and legendary naturalist and television presenter \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/David_Attenborough\u0022\u003ESir David Attenborough\u003C\/a\u003E, among many other distinguished individuals.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;I have been lucky enough to receive quite a number of awards, but in many ways, I prize this Fellowship\u0026nbsp;somewhat\u0026nbsp;more,\u0026rdquo; Webster says. \u0026ldquo;It came from nominations from long-standing colleagues and was\u0026nbsp;conferred\u0026nbsp;by\u0026nbsp;colleagues. That means a great deal to me.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EEstablished in 1850, RMetS serves professionals, academics, and those with general interest in meteorology. As a scientific organization, RMetS publishes \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.rmets.org\/publications\/journals\u0022\u003Eseveral international science journals\u003C\/a\u003E and advises the British government on matters relating to meteorology and climate change. As a registered charity, RMetS supports educational programs and engages in the professional development of its members at all levels of their careers.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EA native of the U.K., Webster has special affinity for English institutions. While he was still a child, his family emigrated to Australia, where he would eventually earn a bachelor\u0026rsquo;s degree from the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.rmit.edu.au\/\u0022\u003ERoyal Melbourne Institute of Technology\u003C\/a\u003E. From there, he went on to earn a Ph. D. from MIT. He visited the U.K. frequently to collaborate with scientists there for many years. In 2015, he was invited to deliver the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www2.physics.ox.ac.uk\/events\/2015\/06\/19\/halley-lecture-understanding-the-monsoon\u0022\u003E116\u003Csup\u003Eth\u003C\/sup\u003E Sir Edmund Halley Lecture\u003C\/a\u003E \u0026ndash; his talk was entitled \u0026ldquo;Understanding the Monsoon\u0026rdquo; \u0026ndash; at the University of Oxford.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EWhen asked what might have prompted the Honorary Fellowship, Webster says, \u0026ldquo;Much of my applied work was done in conjunction with U.K. and European institutions.
