{"591640":{"#nid":"591640","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Georgia Tech Continues to Excel in APR","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EGeorgia Tech athletics continues to excel in NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR), according to data released by the NCAA on Wednesday.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nAPR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams. It measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport. In the latest APR data, four Georgia Tech teams (women\u0026rsquo;s cross country, golf, men\u0026rsquo;s swimming \u0026amp; diving and volleyball) posted perfect multiyear scores of 1,000 and each of the Yellow Jackets\u0026rsquo; 15 programs came in at 963 or higher.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nTwelve of Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s 15 programs boast multiyear APR scores above the national average for their respective sports, while two others come within five points of the national average (baseball \u0026ndash; one, women\u0026rsquo;s tennis \u0026ndash; four). Nine Georgia Tech teams have multiyear APR scores that are 10 or more points higher than the national average for their sports, led by men\u0026rsquo;s swimming \u0026amp; diving (1,000 \u0026ndash; 21 points higher than the national average of 979) and football (983 \u0026ndash; 17 points higher than the national average of 966).\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nAdditionally, 10 of Tech\u0026rsquo;s 15 programs recorded a perfect single-year APR for 2015-16: women\u0026rsquo;s basketball, men\u0026rsquo;s cross country, women\u0026rsquo;s cross country, golf, softball, men\u0026rsquo;s swimming \u0026amp; diving, women\u0026rsquo;s swimming \u0026amp; diving, men\u0026rsquo;s tennis, women\u0026rsquo;s tennis and volleyball.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026ldquo;It\u0026rsquo;s a great point of pride for Georgia Tech athletics to rank among the nation\u0026rsquo;s leaders in APR,\u0026rdquo; Georgia Tech Director of Athletics Todd Stansbury said. \u0026ldquo;As I said last week when the Public Recognition Awards were announced, our APR success is due to our student-athletes\u0026rsquo;, coaches\u0026rsquo; and academic support staff\u0026rsquo;s dedication to our mission of developing young people who will change the world. The Yellow Jackets\u0026rsquo; golf team earned its 12th-straight Public Recognition Award, continuing its streak of earning the honor every year since the inception of the APR program in 2006.
