Levine was widely quoted on the issue in newspapers including the Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, USA Today, Atlanta Journal Constitution, and Wired.com. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EIn a 2008 study, Levine, found that  US researchers published 46% of the world\u0027s top papers in the fields of molecular biology and genetics, but produced only 36% of the human embryonic stem cell studies.\n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003ESpeaking with the Los Angeles Times, Levine said that former President Bush\u0027s policy was partly to blame, and that the elimination of Bush\u0027s limits on stem cell research would help reverse the trend. \n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003ELevine told the Atlanta Journal Constitution, \u0022It\u0027s not going to be a short-term fix, necessarily, but some new lines of research may open up.\u0022  Most important, he noted, lifting Bush funding restrictiosn will allow scientists to \u0022push their research toward the most promising technologies rather than the most politically expedient technologies.\u0022\n\u003C\/p\u003E","summary":null,"format":"limited_html"}],"field_subtitle":"","field_summary":[{"value":"President Obama\u0027s executive order to reverse embryonic stem cell research policy prompted extensive press coverage in March.
