Outside, students control underwater, remotely operated vehicles.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThese are a few examples of project-based learning featured in this year\u0026rsquo;s \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/stemforall2017.videohall.com\/p\/948\u0022\u003Evideo\u003C\/a\u003E that the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EGeorgia Tech\u003C\/a\u003E \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/ampitup.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EAMP-IT-UP\u003C\/a\u003E project submitted to the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/stemforall2017.videohall.com\/\u0022\u003E2017 National Science Foundation (NSF) STEM for All Video Showcase\u003C\/a\u003E: Research and Design for Impact. Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.ceismc.gatech.edu\u0022\u003ECenter for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing\u003C\/a\u003E (CEISMC)\u0026nbsp;implements AMP-IT-UP.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe AMP-IT-UP video joined 170 others in the online showcase, held online on May 15-22, 2017. It was recognized as one of 18 entries for the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/stemforall2017.videohall.com\/presentations#\/winners\/id=jc\u0022\u003EFacilitators\u0026rsquo; Choice\u003C\/a\u003E award.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe showcase invited submissions of videos running three-minutes or less about \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/nsf.gov\/\u0022\u003ENSF\u003C\/a\u003E-funded projects that seek to improve STEM learning and teaching. The videos should provide details about the need that inspired the project, the intervention or innovation that addresses the need, and the impact of the project.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe video features students and teachers from \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.carverroadmiddle.education\/pages\/Carver_Road_Middle\u0022\u003ECarver Road Middle school\u003C\/a\u003E in Griffin, Georgia, where the curriculum that AMP-IT-UP developed is being piloted. Students are shown engaging in AMP-IT-UP activities that focus on engineering design, foundational math skills, and science practices that promote evidence-based decision-making, as well as inspire academic engagement.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EDuring the showcase, principal investigators, administrators, researchers, and the public viewed the videos, engaged in discussions, and voted for the videos that most effectively conveyed the creative work of NSF-funded programs.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;The video showcase provides a wonderful opportunity to explore the breadth of educational work funded by NSF and to make connections with other researchers and educators,\u0026rdquo; said CEISMC Associate Director and AMP-It-Up Co-Principal Investigator \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/ceismc.gatech.edu\/about\/staffdirectory\/marion-usselman\u0022\u003EMarion Usselman\u003C\/a\u003E. \u0026ldquo;We hope that legislators and policymakers in Washington got an opportunity to view them. Many are truly inspiring.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ECEISMC Educational Outreach Coordinator \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ceismc.gatech.edu\/about\/staffdirectory\/will-jimerson\u0022\u003EWill Jimmerson\u003C\/a\u003E and CEISMC Research Associate \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ceismc.gatech.edu\/about\/staffdirectory\/jayma-koval\u0022\u003EJayma Koval\u003C\/a\u003E produced the video. Koval also served as a presenter during the showcase. \u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;AMP-IT-UP is a large project that incorporates curriculum across many classes and grade levels,\u0026rdquo; Koval said. \u0026ldquo;The video showcase gave us the opportunity to highlight some of the many components of the project. We are very honored to be one of this year\u0026rsquo;s recipients of the Facilitators\u0026rsquo; Choice award.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EScenes from Carver Road Middle School were shot by Ben Brumfield, senior science writer at Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s Institute Communications and \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ceismc.gatech.edu\/about\/staffdirectory\/steven-taylor\u0022\u003ESteven Taylor\u003C\/a\u003E, CEISMC\u0026rsquo;s communications manager, who also served as video editor.
