{"592904":{"#nid":"592904","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Fall Internship at the Federal Defender Program","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThe\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/gan.fd.org\/\u0022\u003EFederal Defender Program\u003C\/a\u003E, Inc. is a Georgia non-profit organization that provides legal representation to indigent individuals charged with federal crimes in the Northern District of Georgia as well as death-sentenced individuals in federal proceedings.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe program is seeking interns for Fall 2017. \u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EThese are unpaid positions but an excellent opportunities to become engaged in the community while working within a legal environment.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EUndergraduate\u003C\/strong\u003E interns will work primarily in the \u003Cstrong\u003ECapital Habeas Unit\u003C\/strong\u003E, which represents death-sentenced clients during the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/wex\/habeas_corpus\u0022\u003Ehabeas corpus\u003C\/a\u003E component of their appeals. Students will work closely with the Capital Habeas paralegal team and experience a variety of cases and projects.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EResponsibilities include:\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cul\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003Eorganizing case documents\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003Ereviewing trial transcripts\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003Econducting research on capital punishment and case-specific topics.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\u003C\/ul\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EInterns will also develop professional skills and perform general office duties such as copying and scanning documents.
