The research path has been vexing, while the need for progress has become urgent\u0026nbsp;\u0026mdash; especially as people live longer.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAmong people who make it to age 85, some 50 percent will have Alzheimer\u0026rsquo;s, which afflicts slightly more women than men. Consequently, most everyone knows someone who is suffering or has died from the disease.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ELate last year, U.S. research on Alzheimer\u0026rsquo;s received a significant boost in funding. And recently\u0026nbsp;\u0026mdash; aided by new tools\u0026nbsp;\u0026mdash; scientists, doctors, and engineers around the world have been making fascinating inroads, including at the Georgia Institute of Technology, which collaborates with Emory University\u0026rsquo;s\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/alzheimers.emory.edu\/\u0022\u003Ehighly regarded Alzheimer\u0026rsquo;s research center\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ESome of their insights include: Alzheimer\u0026rsquo;s may work much like mad cow disease. It also may have aspects of inflammatory disease.
