{"593898":{"#nid":"593898","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Eclipse Exhibit at Clough","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EA mini-exhibit to celebrate the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.cos.gatech.edu\/Eclipse\u0022\u003EAug. 21, 2017, solar eclipse\u003C\/a\u003E is up for viewing at Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons from today until Aug. 31, 2017.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EMeant to whet the Georgia Tech community\u0026rsquo;s curiosity about the rare solar spectacle on the first day of the 2017 Fall semester, the exhibit looks at past eclipses from \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.cos.gatech.edu\/hg\/item\/593304\u0022\u003Escience\u003C\/a\u003E and \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.cos.gatech.edu\/hg\/item\/593437\u0022\u003Epop culture\u003C\/a\u003E perspectives. It displays the path of totality of the Aug. 21, 2017, solar sensation, which will be visible across the U.S. from coast to coast.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe mini-exhibit was designed and installed by Kirk Henderson, exhibits program manager at the Georgia Tech Library. Along with Henderson, James Sowell, director of the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.cos.gatech.edu\/hg\/item\/589634\u0022\u003EGeorgia Tech Observatory\u003C\/a\u003E, and Renay San Miguel and A. Maureen Rouhi, of the College of Sciences Communications Office, contributed content.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Georgia Tech campus and the rest of Atlanta will experience 97% totality. The moon will begin to cover the sun at 1:06 PM local time. Maximum overlap will occur at 2:37 PM. The sun will reappear completely at 4:02 PM.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.cos.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ECollege of Sciences\u003C\/a\u003E and the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/oue.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EOffice of Undergraduate Education\u003C\/a\u003E have procured solar-eclipse glasses and organized activities to enable the Georgia Tech community to \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/cos.gatech.edu\/hg\/item\/593295\u0022\u003Eexperience the eclipse safely\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ESolar-eclipse glasses will be distributed across campus at noon on Aug. 21, 2017. To ensure your safety when viewing the sun:\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cul\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003ENever look at the sun without special eye protection. Direct viewing can cause permanent eye damage.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EInspect solar-eclipse glasses before use.
