Comprehensive Planning presents multiple opportunities for the integration of community health and wellness perspectives into built environment decision making.

 

During Louisville's most recent plan update, scheduled for completion in fall 2017, the Georgia Health Policy Center worked with a range of local stakeholders to enhance the integration of health concepts into the planning process and develop a strategy for continued collaboration as the plan is implemented.

Early in the planning process health was identified as one of five guiding principles - along with connectivity, authenticity, sustainability, and equity. These principles resulted in a plan update that intentionally aims for positive influence on a wide range of health issues of importance to the local community, ranging from physical activity and nutrition to crime and safety. This presentation will provide an overview of the project to date and share emerging lessons learned that can help inform others' efforts to promote public health through cross-sector collaboration.
